Iran, Iraq reopen border crossings for trade exchanges

Iran and Iraq have reopened border crossings for trade exchanges after five months of hiatus, Eghtesad Online news website reported on Monday.

Iraq closed its international and provincial borders with Iran in March, except for the delivery of essential goods to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Yahya Al-e Es'haq, the chairman of Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce, said that health safety protocols have been designed and implemented for the borders with Iraq.

A total of 5 million tons of non-oil goods worth 1.45 billion U.S. dollars were exported from Iran to Iraq during the first quarter of the current Iranian year (March 20-June 20) to register a 40 percent decline in weight and 38.3 percent fall in value compared with the corresponding period of last year, according to the report.
