COLOMBO, March 13 (APD) - Three fishermen were reported missing in Sri Lanka on Tuesday as strong winds lashed coastal areas in the country.

The three fishermen had set out to sea from the northern Mullaitivu town overnight despite a warning issued by the Department of Meteorology.

The Department of Meteorology said that the low pressure area in the south of Sri Lanka was located to the south-west of Sri Lanka on Tuesday. It was likely to develop further and move to west- northwestward, towards the Arabian Sea.

Under the influence of the system, showers or thundershowers with cloudy conditions are expected to continue over most parts of the island and surrounding sea areas on Tuesday.

Fishermen were warned not to set out to sea as the wind speeds were strong.
