Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that his country will keep supporting Syria despite all the pressures, according to Syria's state news agency SANA.
Rouhani made the remarks during his meeting with Syria's Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi, who flew to Tehran to hold meetings with top officials there regarding boosting the relations between the two countries on various levels.
According to SANA, Rouhani stressed that the "global conspiracies" against Iran will not prevent it from continuing its support for the Syrian government and its people.
He also said that the countries that supported the terrorist groups in Syria have started to realize that "the military and financial support for the terrorist organizations cannot bring down the legitimate leadership of Syria."
Al-Halqi also give a letter from President Bashar al-Assad to Rouhani.
Assad said in the letter that the two sides share a will to develop bilateral ties on all levels in the face of the "Zionist-American and Western schemes," said SANA.
Al-Halqi also met with Ali Shamkhani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran.
The Syrian prime minister stressed that his country is making its way toward the "big victory" for restoring stability and security to all of Syria in tandem with commencing the reconstruction process, said the report.
For his part, Shamkhani said "Iran and Syria, thanks to their strategic cooperation, will uproot the terrorism and will celebrate their victory against it."
During his trip, Al-Halqi also met with Eshaq Jahangiri, Iran's first vice president. They discussed ways to boost economic and trade cooperation, and Jahangiri expressed his country's keenness to take part in the reconstruction of the Syria.
Iran has always been a key and staunch ally of President Bashar al-Assad and his government.
Foreign ministers of Syria, Iraq and Iran agreed recently to continue coordination and consultation on efforts of combating the rampant terrorism. Enditem
