Two men have been arrested after a car crash and shooting in west Sydney, the New South Wales Police confirmed Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the scene after receiving reports of a two-car crash and shots fired at an intersection of Hunter and Marsden streets, Sydney's suburb of Parramatta, on the morning hours of Wednesday, police said.

On their arrival at the scene, police found two cars had collided, with two men trapped in one of the vehicles.

"Two men, both aged 20, were arrested at the scene and taken to Parramatta Police Station where they are currently assisting with inquiries into the incident," police said in a statement, but didn't say whether the two arrested are those trapped in the car.

Police said that a 22-year-old male pedestrian was hit by the car crash. The man was seriously injured and was taken to hospital with a broken leg and dislocated shoulders.

"A number of bullets were recovered from the scene and will be forensically examined," said the police.
