A group of opposition parties in Venezuela on Sunday threatened to boycott the country's December presidential election, accusing the ruling party of plotting to rig the vote.

In a statement published on the National Assembly's website, 27 parties said participating in the election would amount to "collaborating with the dictatorship's strategy"

Th parties said in their statement that Venezuela "deserves free, democratic and transparent elections."

The move to boycott December's presidential election is similar to what the parties resorted to in Maduro's 2018 re-election.

Ahead of the vote, the Venezuela supreme court named directors of the electoral body (CNE), which oversees elections.

The Venezuela presidency was yet to respond to the statement by the opposition parties by the time of publishing the article.
