Taiwan's top legislator Wang Jin-pyng can retain his membership of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT), according to the final ruling of the island's court on Thursday.

The final ruling came after the KMT, chaired by Eric Chu since January, did not re-submit a required document on the appointment of legal representatives, therefore dropping its legal action.

Wang was stripped of KMT membership in September 2013 over allegations of illegal lobbying. Wang then applied for a court injunction to prevent his being ejected from the party.

Withdrawal of party membership could have cost Wang his seat as a KMT legislator-at-large and his position as head of the legislative body, which he has held since 1999.
