Myanmar National Airlines (MNA), renamed from state-run Myanmar Airways, will lease 10 new Boeing aircrafts to modernize its services, a semi-official media reported Thursday.

The ten Boeing aircrafts, including six Boeing 737-800s and four Boeing 737-8 MAX models, will be leased from U.S.-based GE Capital Aviation Services, said the Global New Light of Myanmar quoting the Ministry of Transport.

The first plane is expected to arrive in June and be added to the currently operating nine aircrafts, while the remaining will arrive within five years, said the MNA.

Myanmar corporatized Myanmar National Airlines (MNA) in December last year in a bid to facilitate investment in air transportation technology and services, and the move was also aimed at reinvigorating the country's aviation industry and improving the MNA's aviation hospitality, according to the ministry.

MNA, the 67-year-old airline, is the national flag carrier of Myanmar established in 1948 as Union of Burma Airways (UBA) then. It was then renamed as Myanma Airways in 1989.
