5 people arrested in Sydney terror-related raids

Five males aged 16 to 24 were arrested in dawn raid in Sydney on Wednesday in relation to the fatal shooting of an employee outside New South Wales police headquarters last Friday.

More than 200 police officers raided homes in western Sydney.

Those arrested include a 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man from Wentworthville, a 22-year-old man and a 24-year-old man from Merrylands, and a 22-year-old man from Marsfield.

In a statement, NSW Police said the five had been arrested "in relation to the fatal shooting of Curtis Cheng outside Police Headquarters at Parramatta on Friday 2 October".

"The arrests were made as part of a joint investigation by the NSW Police Force, State Crime Command Homicide Squad and the Australian Federal Police."

Wednesday's dawn operation followed last night's raid on the home of a teenager who allegedly used his Facebook page to threaten police.

Yesterday morning the student was stopped by police on his way to to the same school attended by police headquarters gunman Farhad Jabar Khalil Mohammad, 15.

He was later charged with assaulting and intimidating police, two counts of resisting arrest and using a carriage to menace, harass and offend. enditem
