The number of marriage registrations in China has dropped for the third consecutive year.

Data from the Ministry of Civil Affairs showed that more than 11.3 million Chinese citizens got married in 2016, down by 7.5 percent year-on-year. The number of marriage registrations hit a record high of 13.4 million in 2013 and then continued to decrease for three years.

Henan Province still topped the number of marriage registrations with 964,000, but also saw a three-year consecutive drop from 1.22 million in 2013.

Meanwhile, due to more acceptance of Chinese society towards divorce, the number of divorces in China has been rising for 14 straight years. The figure hit 3.4 million last year, compared to 1.3 million in 2013.
