7 injured in south China knife attack

A knife-wielding man went on a slashing rampage at a village's intersection in south China, leaving six civilians and one auxiliary policeman injured on Sunday, local authorities said.

The 38-year-old suspect, surnamed Luo, allegedly attacked six people including a student with a knife at about 2:50 p.m. near Sihe Village, according to a statement issued by the Binyang County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

One auxiliary policeman was also injured when the police responded to capture the suspect, the statement said.

It also said the suspect, who was caught at the scene, might suffer from mental illness based on medical records. Further investigation was under way.
