Vietnam vows to deepen comprehensive partnership with U.S.

Vietnam has always attached importance to deepening the comprehensive partnership with the United States, said Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.

Minh made the remarks when he met with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Thursday.

Minh urged the U.S. to continue to open market, limit trade barriers, especially supervision program applied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Vietnamese pangasius (tra fish).

Minh also urged the U.S. to recognize Vietnam's market economy status and complete negotiation on the Trans-Pacific Partnership ( TPP) with flexibility and differential treatment as committed.

Russel said that the establishment of the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam is an important part of the U.S. strategy to strengthen ties with the Asia-Pacific region, and agreed to work together to effectively implement the relations of comprehensive partnership.

He said the two sides should strengthen coordination in regional and international forums incluing the United Nations Human Rights Council, ASEAN Regional Forum and the East Asia Summit among others.
