COVID-19 cases rise to 6 in Switzerland

The Swiss authorities confirmed five new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing the total to six across the country.

Zurich cantonal authorities confirmed on Thursday evening that a 30-year-old woman, who traveled to Milan, Italy, a week ago, was diagnosed with COVID-19.

In its neighboring Aargau canton, a 26-year-old man tested positive for COVOD-19 on Thursday afternoon and is currently in isolation in the cantonal hospital. The man was on a business trip to Verona in northern Italy about a week ago.

In the southeastern canton of Graubunden, two positive cases were confirmed. The patients -- two Italian children on vacation in the region -- are showing symptoms but in good health.

Canton Geneva also confirmed a case on Thursday. Geneva's Department of Security, Employment and Health said that a 28-year-old IT worker, who had recently returned from Milan, had tested positive for COVID-19. Around 15 people who have been in contact with the man have been placed in quarantine at their homes.

Switzerland's first case, confirmed on Tuesday, is a man in his 70s. The pensioner from the southern canton of Ticino contracted the coronavirus in the Milan region during an event on Feb. 15. He is in isolation in a clinic in Lugano and is reportedly doing well.

The Federal Office of Public Health said on Thursday that the new cases do not change the current "moderate risk" assessment in Switzerland.
