BEIJING, April 25 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia has reported 5,966 COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 74,588 as of Saturday, official data showed.

The death toll climbed to 681, up 66 from the previous day, while 6,250 people have recovered, including 682 in the past 24 hours.

Moscow, the country's worst-hit area, confirmed 2,612 new cases over the last 24 hours, taking its total to 39,509.


MANILA -- The number of health workers who tested positive for COVID-19 in the Philippines has climbed to 1,101, a senior Philippine health official said on Saturday.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual media briefing that among the infected medical workers are 434 doctors, 400 nurses, 55 nursing assistant, 32 medical technologist, and 21 radiologic technologists.

NAIROBI -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday extended nationwide curfew for another three weeks, saying cessation of movement in some counties will remain in place for the same period.

Kenyatta told a televised news conference in Nairobi that he took the decision following advice he received from the health ministry and relevant government agencies about the prevailing health situation in the country.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry said Saturday evening that four new deaths due to COVID-19 and 436 more positive cases were reported since morning across the country, taking the number of deaths to 779 and total cases to 24,942.

"As on 5:00 p.m. (local time), today, 779 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," reads the information released by the ministry.


BRUSSELS -- The Chinese envoy to the European Union said on Friday that no matter what kind of labels are given to China's assistance efforts, the country will continue to help others fight the coronavirus and save as many lives as possible.

Zhang Ming, head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, said in a conversation with Friends of Europe, a Brussels-based think tank, that "COVID-19 is a human tragedy, not a playground for politics."

BEIJING -- China still faces a tough task to prevent a resurgence of the COVID-19 epidemic caused by imported cases, a health official said Saturday.

The number of countries as sources of imported cases reported on the Chinese mainland rose to 50 on Friday, said Mi Feng, spokesperson for the National Health Commission (NHC), at a press conference in Beijing.
