BEJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- July 26 marks the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. Adopted by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 2015, this special day aims to raise awareness of the importance of mangrove ecosystems as "unique, special and vulnerable ecosystem" and to promote solutions for their sustainable management, conservation and uses.

According to Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, "The International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem signifies the value of Mangroves as the foundation for coastal life and advocates for support and awareness of the communities dependent on their conservation."

Let's take a look at mangroves as we celebrate the "International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem."
