Gas explosion kills 9 in east China restaurant

Nine people were killed and 10 others injured in a restaurant gas explosion in eastern China on Sunday, local authorities said.

The gas explosion gutted a restaurant and damaged neighboring three-story shops at around 11 a.m. in Xishan District in the coastal city of Wuxi, according to the city's publicity department.

Rescue work has finished and the injured were in stable condition, the department said.

An overpass collapsed last week in the same city, killing three people inside two cars trapped under the collapsed highway.
