NEW DELHI, Dec. 30 (APD)-- Saturday was Delhi’s coldest December night in the last six years, as temperature in the rest of north India continues to decrease.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature at the Safdarjung observatory on Saturday at 6.10 was recorded at 2.4°C, which is just a mark higher than 2.3 °C, the lowest temperature in recent times.

IMD, further said that in other parts of Delhi the recorded temperatures were 1.4 degrees at Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi and 1.7 degrees at Lodhi Road.

The cold weather also disrupted rail, road and air traffic in north India, particularly in Delhi.

As visibility dropped to zero near Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, many flights were delayed or cancelled.

The Delhi Airport Authority said low visibility procedure has been imposed at the airport. A news report explained, “Flights are operating at the airport under CAT III B conditions, which means that the runway visual range (RVR) is between 50 metre and 175 metre.”

Through twitter the Delhi Airport Authority said, “While landings and take offs continue at Delhi airport, flights that are not CAT III B compliant may get affected."

Domestic flights have particularly been affected by low visibility and intense fog. In the last few days more than 750 flights were delayed, while many stand cancelled.
