Seven shot, one killed on New Year's Eve in west Canada

A New Year's Eve house party in Calgary in west Canada turned violent in the early hours of Thursday in a shooting that wounded seven people, according to the police.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation News reported one died later in the hospital,

Calgary police said dozens of people were at the house party when the shots rang out. It was still unclear what really happened at the house party.

About 50 people were at or near the residence, and 15 witnesses were taken to police headquarters in a city transit bus to be interviewed. Police said they did not get a great deal of cooperation or information from the witnesses.

At least two blocks were cordoned off, with numerous police cruisers in the area. Police were still looking for the shooter who was on the run. Enditem
