U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has made a new proposal to the Palestinians in order to get them back to the negotiating table with Israel, the Ha'aretz daily reported Monday.

The contents of the proposal are vague, according to the report. But it appears to include a list of gestures Israel is willing to make before resuming the peace process and a set of principles on which the talks would be based.

Kerry presented the proposal when meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday, the report said.

Kerry made his fifth visit to the region within three months in the past weekend, in hopes of promoting a quadruple peace summit among representatives of Israel, the Palestinian Authority, the United States and Jordan, that would resume the peace talks which came into a halt in 2010, over Israel's construction in the settlements.

"We have started out with major gaps and have narrowed them down," Kerry said on Sunday.

During this visit, Kerry held separate talks three times with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Abbas.
