Gender-based violence has increased around the world during COVID-19

The United Nations says there’s ample evidence from around the world thatgender-basedviolencehas increased amid the pressures of theCOVID-19 pandemic.

It’s even described the spike in domestic abuse as a “shadow pandemic.” The numbers are certainly high in Latin America.

Colombia​’sObservatory forFemicide reported 568 women have been killedbetweenJanuaryandNovember of 2020. Studies are still underway to understand the level of impact the pandemic andisolation ordershave on the femicide rate.
