A Chinese envoy on Thursday underscored that the eradication of terrorist forces is a necessary requirement to end the conflict in Syria.

Speaking at a Security Council meeting, Wu Haitao, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, urged the international community to work together to bring terrorists to justice.

The problem of foreign terrorist fighters is particularly acute and has become a major obstacle to the restoration of peace and stability in Syria, according to the envoy.

"The safe haven established by terrorist forces in Syria should be eliminated in accordance with Security Council resolutions and international law," Wu said.

China supports relevant parties in seeking a comprehensive long-term solution to the Idlib issue through dialogue and negotiation, said the envoy.
