China on Wednesday urged the U.S. to take effective measures to prevent its domestic human rights situation from worsening as the 46th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council reviewed the outcomes concerning the U.S. human rights situation.

Commenting on the adoption of the outcomes of the U.S. Universal Periodic Review (UPR), Jiang Duan, minister of the Chinese mission to the UN in Geneva, said China is "deeply concerned" about the deterioration of the human rights situation in the U.S.

"China urges the U.S. to take the UPR as an opportunity to stop human rights violations in all forms and take effective measures to prevent its human rights situation from further deterioration," said the Chinese delegate.

He said that China regrets that the U.S. did not accept most of the recommendations proposed by China at the current universal periodic review.

The Chinese delegation named several issues like the U.S. failure to take effective measures to control the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives, as well as racismand police brutality that "remain devastating" in the country.

Muslims, refugees and immigrants are faced with discrimination and xenophobia, he said.

At the international level, the U.S. has pursued vaccine nationalism and has overly stockpiled COVID-19 vaccines that "far exceed the need for its population, and refused to provide vaccines to other countries, including its allies," Jiang pointed out.
