S.Korean president expresses sincere hope for DPRK's nuke renunciation

South Korean President Park Geun-hye on Thursday expressed her sincere hope for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s nuclear renunciation following the adoption of new UN Security Council resolution overnight, according to her office.

Park said in her message on the new UN resolution that she sincerely hopes for the DPRK to abandon its nuclear program and come to a road for change, pledging to make more efforts at peace and reunification on the Korean Peninsula.

Passing the unprecedentedly strong anti-DPRK resolution through the UN Security Council is a strong message of the international community wanting peace on the peninsula and in the world, Park noted.

The president expressed gratitude for efforts by UN Security Council member states and the international community to produce such results for the DPRK's nuclear dismantlement and the peninsula's peace, vowing to strengthen close solidarity with the international community.

The UN Security Council unanimously approved the new sanctions against the DPRK, which conducted its fourth nuclear test on Jan. 6 and went ahead with a long-range rocket launch on Feb. 7. The launch was condemned by outsiders as a test of banned ballistic missile technology.
