Thousands of revellers paraded in the center of the Greek capital on Saturday during the 12th Athens Pride festival demanding respect for the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community (LGBT) community.

Dressed in colorful costumes, members of the LGBT community, joined by their relatives, friends and representatives of other human rights groups, political parties and civil society organizations danced, waving rainbow-colored flags and banners with slogans against stigmatization based on sexual orientation.

First held in 2005, the Athens Pride provides a free public platform for all LGBT community organizations to put forth their aims, activities, and specific demands, organizers explained on their website.
