China will hold a military parade at the Zhurihe Training Base in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region at 9:00 a.m. local time Sunday, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the event.

On August 1, 1927, armed forces led by the Communist Party of China (CPC) organized an uprising in Nanchang, in eastern Jiangxi Province, against the Kuomintang. The day was later designated as the founding day of the PLA.

China's Zhurihe Training Base, situated in the Xilin Gol League of China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is one of the PLA's most well-known military bases. The base falls under the management of the Central Theater Command. To meet the needs of potential future high-tech conflicts, China’s Central Military Commission decided in July 1997, to expand its armored training range into a combined tactical training base, which significantly expanded and modernized the facility. In 2011, the training base was recognized as the PLA's only ground forces joint operation testing range.

Its primary function is to organize troop units into divisions, brigades and regiment levels to carry out combined tactical training exercises.
