Vietnam suffers more explosions, fires in first 5 months

A total of 1,552 fires and explosions broke out across Vietnam in the first five months of this year, killing 34 people and injuring 153 others, while causing property losses of some 723 billion Vietnamese dong (32.1 million U.S. dollars), the country's Fire Prevention and Fight Department said Monday.

In May alone, the Southeast Asian nation experienced 328 fires and explosions which claimed 13 human lives, left 41 people injured, and caused losses of 88 billion Vietnamese dong (3.9 million U.S. dollars).

In the first five months of last year, Vietnam suffered 1,396 fires and explosions, which left 48 people dead and 109 others injured, and caused losses of 281.1 billion Vietnamese dong (12.5 million U.S. dollars).
