APD | India: Jaipur city gets UNESCO World Heritage tag

NEW DELHI, July 9(APD) -- Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan has been declared a World Heritage site by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The announcement came last week, during the 43rd meeting of World Heritage Centre, which was held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Jaipur is called the 'Pink City, and is a renowned destination for tourists as it has beautiful architecture and distinct culture and history.

The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the plan to turn 17 ‘iconic’ tourist sites into world-class destinations in Jaipur.

Responding to the news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said through twitter, “Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valour. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur’s hospitality draws people from all over. Glad that this city has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.”

He further said, “Jaipur is a city associated with culture and valour. Elegant and energetic, Jaipur’s hospitality draws people from all over.”

Amber Palace, Jantar Mantar, City Palace and Hawa Mahal are among the famous tourist destinations in Jaipur.
