Australia's New South Wales (NSW) Premier Barry O'Farrell on Monday announced his reshuffled cabinet after Energy Minister Chris Hartcher resigned over a corruption investigation.

O'Farrell has appointed Anthony Roberts as the new resources and energy minister and Stuart Ayres as minister for fair trading.

Police Minister Mike Gallacher will be appointed minister for central coast while Tourism Minister George Souris will become minister for the hunter.

"Anthony Roberts has been an outstanding performer as minister for fair trading and thoroughly deserves promotion to a senior portfolio which is critical to the strength of the NSW economy," O 'Farrell said in a statement.

"Stuart has strongly represented the interests of small business owners in Penrith and as fair trading minister I know he' ll work hard to cut the red tape burden on small business to help reduce the costs of doing business in NSW."

Roberts and Ayres were sworn into their new roles at Government House on Monday afternoon while Gallacher and Souris will be sworn in early next week.
