Eight people, including two policemen, were wounded following an explosion near a regional police camp in southern Philippines on Wednesday, authorities said.

The blast happened just meters from the Northern Mindanao police regional office in Cagayan de Oro city shortly after 8 a.m. local time, according to Gil Hitosis, regional police chief.

Hitosis told local radio the wounded included six civilians and two policemen.

The police official said an investigation was underway to determine if the explosion was caused by a grenade or an improvised explosive device.
