Another two individuals were confirmed to be infected by the novel coronavirus in Taiwan Monday, raising the total number of COVID-19 cases to 22, according to the island's epidemic monitoring agency.

The two patients are a woman in her 80s and a man in his 30s, both relatives of the 19th confirmed case in Taiwan, also the first COVID-19 death on the island, the agency said at a press conference.

The 19th case was a taxi driver in his 60s living in central Taiwan and died of pneumonia and septicemia on Feb. 15. One of his relatives had already been confirmed to be infected.

The authorities have identified 181 people having close contact with this cluster of four cases and are investigating the source of the infection.
