Over 1,700 prosecuted for epidemic-related crimes in China

Procuratorial organs across the country prosecuted 1,712 suspects in 1,416 cases related to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic by Thursday, the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said Friday.

The SPP said 2,481 suspects had been arrested for epidemic-related crime cases.

The procuratorial organs approved the arrest of 17 people for refusing to follow epidemic prevention and control measures, the SPP said, adding that 485 were arrested for obstructing official duties.

Other violations include intentional injuries, manufacturing or selling fake or inferior products, illegal business operations including price gouging, fraud, fabricating and intentionally transmitting false information and damaging wildlife resources.
