The Ministry of National Defense said on Thursday that the Chinese army will firmly keep on pursuing the Global Security Initiative, promoting the innovative development of international military cooperation and making contributions to global stability.

Tan Kefei, the Ministry of National Defense spokesperson, made the remarks during a regular press conference when asked about details of Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe's speeches at recent meetings.

During the 10th Moscow Conference on International Security on August 16 and the 19th Meeting of the Council of the Defense Ministers of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Wednesday, Wei delivered speeches via video link about promoting the Global Security Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, pointing out that China will share the common interests and stakes and strive to promote the initiative to build a safer and more peaceful future, Tan said.

The spokesperson said the Chinese army attaches great importance to multilateral security dialogue. By actively joining in dialogues such as the SCO and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Forum, China offers constructive advice on enhancing regional defense cooperation. Actions like establishing the Beijing Xiangshan Forum enable delegations from international communities to discuss ways of tackling regional security threats and challenges, Tan said, adding that China plays an active role in driving Asia-Pacific security dialogue and mutual trust and cooperation.

President Xi proposed a Global Security Initiative to promote security for all in his keynote speech delivered via video at the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2022 in April, which aims at comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security ideas to provide a new direction in eradicating international conflict and ensuring lasting peace.
