Ecuador on Wednesday recalled its ambassador to Egypt, Edwin Johnson, for consultation on the new wave of violence that erupted this week in the Arab country, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"Committed to democratic values, Ecuador has decided to recall its ambassador in Cairo for consultation," said the ministry, indicating the government of President Rafael Correa is concerned about instability in Egypt, where the military is struggling for control after ousting President Mohamed Morsi.

"Ecuador expresses its concern over the events that have been taking place in Egypt since the rupture of democracy on July 3 of this year," the ministry said, referring to the day Morsi was forced out of office.

Since Morsi' s ouster, "Egyptian society has been plunged into a climate of civil protest and repression on the part of the de facto government," the ministry observed.

On the same day another Latin American country, Brazil, also expressed its concern over the escalating violence in Egypt, calling upon conflicting parties for dialogue.

"The escalation of violence in Egypt and the repression to protesters represent a serious degradation of security in a country which is essential to the stability in its region," the BrazilianForeign Ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry said that the Brazilian government shared the African Union' s stance that dialogue is essential to maintain long-lasting peace and stability in the country.

Morsi followers peacefully occupying two plazas in Cairo were evicted Wednesday by the military, reportedly killing 278 people and injuring as many as 2,000.
