5 killed in hand grenade attack on cinema in Pakistan's Peshawar

At least five people were killed and 31 others injured on Sunday night when a hand grenade attack targeted a cinema in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar, officials said.

Police officer Shaukat Yousafzai said that the assault targeted crowded Picture House Cinema in the downtown area of Peshawar, capital of northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Police and rescuers rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the Lady Reading Hospital where at least three of the injured were reportedly in critical condition.

According to the police official, some unknown people hurled two hand grenades into the cinema hall and managed to flee the site.

At the time of explosion over 100 people were watching a movie in the main hall of the cinema.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
