NEW DELHI, June 14 (APD)— Led by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, about 3,000,00 people performed yoga in the city of Ahmedabad to mark international yoga day on Wednesday. Ramdev informed the participants that the event would be recorded in the Guinness World Records book for having the highest number of people perform yoga at one place.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, former Chief Minister Anandiben Patel, several other political leaders and government officials also participated in the event. Religious leaders of different faiths were invited to watch and participate in the mega-event. The session lasted for one-and-a-half hours.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the earlier record was made in Delhi on June 21, 2015, when 35,985 people did yoga with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rajpath.

Speaking to the reporters at the venue, Baba Ramdev said, “Today is the most important day for me, as more than three lakh people performed yoga at one place to set a new world record. We have broken the previous world record, which was set in the presence of our PM, by a huge margin.”

Ramdev explained that the Guinness World Records book officials were also attending the event and the final figure of the participants will be announced after analyzing the data collected, as a bar code tag had been given to the participants at the entry gates.

Amit Shah

said, “Though India was trying hard to make yoga popular across the globe since 2011, we got success after the United Nations accepted Modi’s proposal in 2014 and declared June 21 as the World Yoga Day. Since then, the popularity of yoga is increasing across the world rapidly.”
