Princess Diana supplied royal phone book to former royal editor Goodman: media

The Old Bailey, a court which is hearing the case of phone-hacking trial has been told Thursday that Princess Diana leaked a royal phone book to Clive Goodman, the former royal editor of News of the World.

According to media reports, Goodman on Thursday told the court that the late Princess Diana gave him the internal phone book as she was finding "ally" in the press to help her "take on" her estranged husband.

"I received a call from the Princess of Wales later on that day asking me had I received it," -- the book containing royal household numbers in 1992 -- he said.

Goodman also said he got two more books from Kenneth Stonach, a former senior valet to the Prince, who was shortly left by the Prince in 1995.Princess Diana was separated from Prince Charles in 1992 after 11 years of marriage.

Involving in a series of phone-hacking cases, the 56-year-old former royal editor is accused of paying police officer for royal phone books, which he denies. He was the royal editor of News of the World in 2000. In August 2006, police searched some of the books from his home.

Six other defendants, including Rebekah Brooks, former editor of the News of the World, all denied the charges over hacking phones.
