Suicide attack at security forces kills 10 in Pakistan's Rawalpindi

At least 10 people including six security personnel were killed and 17 others injured in a suicide attack at security forces in Pakistan's garrison city of Rawalpindi on Monday morning, local media and officials said.

Superintendent of Police Mian Maqbool said that the incident took place at 7:35 a.m. (Local Time) in the Royal Artillery Bazaar, a residential and commercial area near the General Headquarters of Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi, a neighboring city of capital Islamabad.

Police, security forces and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to the Combined Military Hospital ( CMH) and to the District Headquarters Hospital.

The suicide bomber exploded his vest near a group of security personnel in the busy market some 500 meters away from the army headquarters.

The huge explosion that was heard miles away damaged many motorcycles and vehicles besides smashing the windowpanes of the nearby buildings.

Security forces cordoned off the site and launched a search operation in the nearby areas and arrested two suspected persons.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

The Monday morning blast took place hours before the country's federal cabinet meeting to review the national security policy and to devise strategy against terrorism.

On Sunday, more than 20 soldiers were killed and 30 others injured when a suicide bomber exploded his explosives laden vehicle amid the convoy of security forces in the country's northwestern Bannu district.

Pakistan Taliban claimed responsibility for Monday's attack and said that they would continue their attack at security forces across the country.
