The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee wrapped up its 10th meeting in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Monday with the completion of some major tasks, including the nomination of officials to "strategic positions."

According to local reports on Tuesday, during the eight-day meeting, the Central Committee nominated personnel for the Politburo and the Secretariat for the coming tenure of 2016-2021 and next tenures, according to an announcement of the meeting.

This is the first time the nomination of personnel for " strategic positions" has been conducted directly at a meeting of the Central Committee following a scheme adopted earlier at the sixth meeting of the Central Committee in 2012.

Before the adoption of the new scheme, the nomination of personnel was conducted under the steering of the Central Committee's Organization Commission. A plan on personnel will be later submitted to the Central Committee at the final meeting of the tenure.

In its report, Vietnam's state-run television VTV said the building of personnel plan made by the Central Committee for the first time "showed a long-term vision on the development of the country's revolutionary career."

According to the Central Committee, until Jan. 31, 2015, organizations of the party will finish the review of the nomination of personnel at their units. The Politburo will then make a supplement to the plan of personnel of the Central Committee.

During the meeting, members of the Central Committee also cast confidence vote on members of the Politburo and the Secretariat for the first time ever, and elected more officials to the Central Committee's Inspection Commission, among others.

According to Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the CPV, the vote of confidence aims to help officials review their activities, improve their qualifications in all fields and responsibilities in work as well as to provide the Politburo with information on assessing, arranging and using personnel.

However, it remained unknown whether the results of the vote will be released publicly.

According to Trong at the closing ceremony, the 10th meeting is of great significance as the year 2015 is the final year of realizing the resolution adopted by the 11th National Party Congress and the 2011-2015 socio-economic development plan.

It is also the mid-year of carrying out the 2011-2020 socio- economic development strategy and the year of hosting party congresses at all levels towards the upcoming 12th National Party Congress to be held in 2016, Trong said.

During the 10th meeting, many schemes related to personnel streamlining, the improvement of supervisory roles by public- elected organizations, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the people, media development and management, as well as major issues on the draft reports which will be submitted to the 12th National Party Congress were also discussed, reported an online newspaper of the CPV on Tuesday.
