Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak called on Muslims in the country to unite for turning Malaysia into a modern and progressive Islamic country.
Najib hoped the start of the Ramadan month tomorrow would reflect the importance of unity in upholding the Muslim faith en route to a progressive and developed nation.
"The Muslim community in Malaysia must be grateful for being blessed to embrace the significant event," he said in his special Ramadan message published on the eve of Ramadan.
Najib said the political situation in some Middle East countries is a reminder of the need for unity and importance of brotherhood among Muslims.
"When there is a lack of unity, tolerance and understanding, it leads to conflict and disunity," he stressed.
