MANILA, Jan.16 (APD) -- Operatives from the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) located and arrested a former Chinese government official wanted by the Beijing government for corruption.

In a statement, Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said 49-year-old Xie Haojie will be deported after his arrest last Sunday in his united at a condominium in Pasay City by the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU).

He said Xie, who is wanted for corruption and economic crimes, hid in the Philippines for almost a year after fleeing China to avoid prosecution for his offenses.

The Chinese government launched an all-out campaign against corruption.

“He will immediately be deported to China so he could face the cases lodged against him and his name will be included in the Philippines’ blacklist to prevent his return,” Morente said. He added the Philippine will never tolerate the presence of undesirable aliens using the Philippines as hideout.

Chinese authorities had coordination meetings with the Bureau of Immigration and Presidential Anti-Crime Commission and tracked the fugitive.

It was learned Chinese authorities informed the PACC of the fugitive’s presence in the Philippines.

Commissioner Morente and PACC Chair Dante Jimenez and other officials turned over Xie to Chinese authorities at a ceremony at the PACC Office in Manila earlier in the day Xie, when arrested, is an undocumented alien as his passport was revoked by the Chinese government.

Morente hopes for more partnership in tracking and locating illegal aliens in the Philippines.
