Iran reports 1,972 new COVID-19 cases, 68,192 in total

Iran on Friday reported 1,972 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 68,192, said Iran's Health Ministry.

The death toll of COVID-19 in Iran rose by 122 in the past 24 hours to a total of 4,232, said Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the ministry, during his daily updates on state TV.

A total of 35,465 patients have recovered and left hospitals, while 3,969 are still in critical condition, Jahanpur added.

So far, 242,568 tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in the country, he noted.

With a population of over 82 million, Iran announced the first cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 19, recording so far the highest number of confirmed cases and death toll in the Middle East region.
