China expects rapid tourism investment growth in 2017

Tourism investment in China is expected to gross at least US$217.7 billion in 2017, an increase of 20 percent from last year, according to a recent National Tourism Administration (NTA) report.

The China Tourism Investment Report 2016, released during the Tourism Investment and Financing Promotion Conference on May 19, said that investments will be made in rural tourism, low-altitude airspace tourism, online tourism, sports tourism, recreational tourism and study tourism, Sina reported.

In 2016, low altitude airspace or sightseeing flights has attracted an investment of US$120 million, almost double that of 2015. Investments in other new types of tourism, such as sports tourism and ecotourism, have also grown over 40 percent year-on-year.

Earlier NTA statistics projected that the number of tourists in China would total 488 million in 2017, a 10 percent increase from last year - 40 million of them are expected to be foreign visitors.
