Shanghai-based Fosun Pharma, the Chinese sales agent for German biotechnology company BioNTech SE, said it had signed a deal to provide 10 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to the Taiwan region, according to a statement issued by the company Sunday.

The deal was signed via Fosun's Hong Kong subsidiary with the region's chipmaker TSMC, a medical firm and the charity foundation of Terry Gou, the founder of contract electronics maker Foxconn.

The purchasers will donate the jabs to the region's disease prevention and control institutions for local vaccination, said the statement.
