Young Europeans invited to online entrepreneurship competition

A competition on online entrepreneurship was launched in Brussels on Monday to invite European students and young professionals under 27 years old to develop innovative mobile applications for social inclusion .

The competition, entitled "InnoApps, Huawei Applications Developers European Challenge, Powered by Microsoft," is a joint initiative of Huawei, the Microsoft and the European Young Innovators Forum (EYIF). It aims to contribute to a more inclusive society by fostering "e-skills," increasing "e-participation" and promoting entrepreneurship among the young people.

"Through the competition, we hope to attract young talents and empower young people to develop their ideas while also fostering more youth entrepreneurship in Europe," said Leo Sun, president of Huawei Office for European public affairs in Brussels.

"This competition challenges young people to make Europe a more inclusive society by creating technology-based solutions, whilst encouraging their entrepreneurial spirit and ingenuity," said Jan Muehlfeit, Chairman of Microsoft Europe.

The contest runs until September 8. The awards will be presented in Brussels at a ceremony coinciding with the World Entrepreneurship Week from November18 to 24.

The first prize winner will receive 5,000 euros and will be supported with marketing for his or her app. Outstanding developers will have the opportunity to visit Huawei's innovation centers in Chin, and receive technical and marketing guidance in a workshop in Brussels.

"It is vitally important for the future of Europe and to exit the current crises, that its youth are given concrete opportunities for self-empowerment and supported to take risks for innovation and entrepreneurship," said Kumardev Chatterjee, founder and president of the EYIF.

Founded in 1975, Microsoft is the worldwide leader in software, services and solutions, with customers in 139 countries and territories.
