The first round of the China-US Diplomatic and Security Dialogue is due to kick off Wednesday in Washington DC. Yang Xiyu, senior fellow from the China Institute of International Studies, expressed his views during a interview in CGTN.

Dialogue on security will play a key role among one of the four high-level mechanisms established during the Xi-Trump summit in April.

Obviously, the Security Dialogue is the base to build mutual trust between the two countries, but China and the US have different solutions on major issues, such as the DPRK and South China Sea, so the expected result from the dialogue is to build the mutual confidence in China and the US for further cooperation.

In general, both the US and China hope desperately for peace and stability in this region, and the two countries have different approaches. For example, on the Korean peninsula, the US seeks maximum pressure, but China seeks more pragmatic approaches, starting from the easiest solution.
