Improvements are currently being made at all 12 competition venues for the2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics, set to begin next February, after a series of tests in March and April.

The snow-based venues in Beijing's Yanqing District and Zhangjiakou in the neighboring Hebei Province are currently under maintenance as they await snow in autumn.

Ice-based venues in Beijing will receive athletes in October, when a world championship takes place, providing the perfect testing ground for next year's Winter Olympics.

Thirteen other venues constructed for the competition, such as Olympic villages and media centers, are nearing completion.

In late May, the organizing committee said all the venues have metthe highest possible standards for eco-friendly buildings in China.

They will run on clean energy, supplied by newly built green power stations, the first time the Olympics will be powered entirely by renewable energy.

Officials from the International Olympic Committee said organizers are optimistic about the progress so far. They said all sides are united for the next stage, guaranteeing that everything is in place for a successful Olympic Games.
