TheU.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is stepping up efforts to identify new mutant strains of COVID-19 spreading across the country.

To date, several states have identified a new variant - thought to be more contagious than the original virus, but health experts say they believe it's much more widespread than currently known.
