Zlatan Ibrahimovic made a stunning debut for his new club LA Galaxy as he scored a brace in his maiden MLS game as his side defeated LAFC 4-3 on Saturday.

It was a Ibrahimovic header in the opening seconds of stoppage time which clinched the decisive fourth goal for the Galaxy after the Swedish striker slotted home the equalizer with a 40-yard kick in the 77th minute to level the score at 3-3.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic from LA Galaxy (R) heads to score against Laurent Ciman (L) and goalkeeper Tyler Miller of LAFC during their Major League Soccer (MLS) game at the StarHub Center in Los Angeles, California, on March 31, 2018.

However, the 36-year-old was shown a yellow card after pulling off his shirt in celebration as his much-awaited American arrival began on a positive note.

Ibrahimovic wasn’t in the starting line-up but was eventually brought in after replacing Sebastian Lletget in the 71st minute following chants of “We want Zlatan” started in earnest at a sold-out StubHub Center. The former Manchester United player’s first touch came in the 73rd as he assisted Chris Pontius to score with a header to make it 3-2.

“I think I heard, ‘We want Zlatan, We want Zlatan.’ And I gave them Zlatan,” Ibrahimovic told Fox after the game. "So they were pushing me, and I gave back.”

Nonetheless, it was quite an impressive performance for the former Sweden captain, who arrived in the United States on Thursday night and trained with the Galaxy for the first time on Friday.
