Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and his delegation could not reject the charms of famous cuisine before concluding a visit to China.

On Thursday night, the delegation had a banquet in the southwestern city of Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan Province, where the cuisine is known for its bold flavors, particularly the pungency and spiciness resulting from liberal use of garlic and chili peppers, as well as the unique flavor of Sichuan pepper.

Chengdu city is the third stop of the Austrian delegation. The Austrian president along with his large delegation completed his six-day visit in China on Thursday.

The Austrian guests had a very tight schedule in Chengdu.

Sichuan is viewed as the new star in terms of development.

Over 300 Fortune 500 companies have set up branches in the city. Its economic growth ranks at the top of the 12 western provinces.

Sichuan ranks the first in China in terms of exploitable hydropower resources and natural gas reserve, just to name a few.

During the visit, Austria established a Consulate General in Chengdu and announced the first cargo train from Chengdu to Vienna.
