Confirmed COVID-19 cases at a PepsiCo snack factory in Beijing

Confirmed COVID-19 cases were found in a PepsiCo snack production factory in Daxing District, Beijing, the food company said on Sunday.

In a statement on its official Weibo account, COVID-19 cases were confirmed among employees at a snack factory in Beijing's Daxing District. Production will be suspended soon.

The factory mainly processes grain products, potato products such as the popular brand Lay's, and puffed food.

The beverage production part of company has not been affected, as no cases were found in the bottler factories, said the statement.

The company also said it has taken measures including sealing products, disinfecting the space and quarantining employees after finding the cases.

PepsiCo's food business entered China in 1993, and has grown to seven major food factories including in Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuhan.

The U.S. multinational food and beverage maker has increased its global net revenues from 39.47 billion U.S. dollars in 2007 to 64.66 billion U.S. dollars in 2018, data from Statista showed.
