Vietnam has so far this year gained total import and export turnovers of 400 billion U.S. dollars, doubling the figure six years ago, the General Department of Vietnam Customs said on Wednesday.

The country's import-export turnovers stood at 30 billion U.S. dollars in 2001, some 100 billion U.S. dollars in 2007 when it joined the World Trade Organization, 200 billion U.S. dollars in 2011, and 300 billion U.S. dollars in 2015.

"Vietnam is expected to reap import-export turnovers of 410 billion U.S. dollars in 2017," local media quoted Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue as saying.

According to the general department, Vietnam gained export turnovers of nearly 194.5 billion U.S. dollars, and import turnovers of 191.3 billion U.S. dollars, enjoying a trade surplus of roughly 3.2 billion U.S. dollars, the biggest-ever surplus.

On average, Vietnam annually saw a trade deficit of 12.5 billion U.S. dollars a year from 2006 to 2010, and 2 billion U.S. dollars in the 2011-2015 period.

Vietnam currently has over 200 trading partners, including 29 export markets and 23 import markets which had turnovers of more than 1 billion U.S. dollars each in the first 11 months of this year.
